New guidelines recently set out by the Tax Practitioners Board and the ATO for tax practitioners have established new requirements to undertake client identity verification. These guidelines will protect tax practitioners and their clients from identity theft and related issues.€' Tax agents will be responsible for carrying out positive verification of identity under this new system.
